As the caves were built from the top down, drawings at the ceiling are the oldest*. These are some knights fighting a dragon. The technique here was: blacken the ceiling with a carbid light then carve out the picture in negative. *In one of the systems open to the public, the guide allways tells that the ceiling is the oldest. Therefore, ZBL, a group of explorers which reopened these caves within 3 weeks after being locked, once got in with a ladder and wrote "ZBL 2003" on the ceiling to fuck with the guides :-P

These drawings are probably from the middle ages or earlier.

Not earlier. I don't know when these caves were constructed, but almost certainly not before 500. I'd say they're from the 1600-ish era.

Know: Yes. Worry: No. The problem is that the caves are all within a square kilometre devided between 3 major authorities: Dutch, Wallon and Flemish government. The Flemish and Dutch do care, but all Flemish parts are only accessible from Wallon territory. So: No.

The Radboud University did an investigation, and it seems that these pictures are from 1375 +/- 40 years. (C14 dating)
