The troughs are feeding troughs for the waiting cattle. the silos are to small te be a full scale elevator. the silos was just to store the feed. very few grain elevaters handled cattle so their is no need for fencing. Slaughterhouses don't need to keep the cows fed - they come in on trucks and are shuttled to the killing floor. You would have chutes leading to a large cutting/butchering room.
