It makes some beautiful buildings; The library in Proctor is ALL marble. Pure white.

Makes nice causeways too. Ever seen the old railway line from Alburg down to Burlington through the Hero Islands? They dumped hundreds and hundreds of boatloads of this stuff into Lake Champlain to make those causeways.

yeah, and now the big bitch up there is they want to take the causeways out... make up your mind, Vermont!

I know the road across the water at East Alburg is being replaced with a bridge to alleviate the algae problem. Are there others being removed too?

I hope they never take out the old train causeways. Those things will make an amazing bike path some day.

yupper, those are the ones... :o(

A little googling turns up this: The one at West Swantan is being removed (330 feet of it anyway) and the one at Carry Bay is likely to get it next. The little one at the Gut as well as the big honkin one at South Hero seem to be safe. For now.

This bites, but what can be done? The north end of the lake has been pretty nasty these past few summers.

Bummer, dude. Here's hoping the causeway work will alleviate the situation throughout the lake.

I found a bit of history on the "Island Hopper" line in case you're interested...
