A man was killed after being pulled into the rewinder shown here in 1965. The rewinder is right after the calendar stack.

we never had anyone get sucked into the rewinder, but we've had people get crushed by the cradle off the bottom end of the winder... messy messy messy. Personally, I didn't like working around the paper machines all that much. Too much moving around that could kill you.

let's see... just on the dry end (where the rolls come off the winder), you can be crushed by rolls of paper that are 60 inches in diamater, 5 feet long and weight 6000lbs... The reel of paper coming off of #8 PM weighs almost 40 tons... the reel coming off of #7 weighs almost 30 tons... there is steam, dryer cans, guide ropes... all this shit can kill you if you aren't paying attention.

Those kind of incidents don't look good on paper.
