grain elevator? Explore it yet? :oP I had to ask, since no one else did.

Yes, it was a Cargill elevator (pretty sure). It is alarmed now, nothing complex though - haven't been in it yet...

Screw the ship, get in that silo!

  It's alarmed.

It's alarmed? At what? People exploring it or at being next to this floating wreck of a boat for so long? :oP

They store some expensive boats inside. The whole area is a semi-fenced marina with some very nice boats - and they (rightfully so) have to worry about theft and/or vandalism.

i was just reading on another forum that the aquarama is being considered for scrapping (finally) because it is too much valuable steel sitting doing nothing!
Posted by JavaDog 9/15/2005 10:10 PM | remove
That would suck so much. I knwo she is worth $1 million+ in scrap - but that would have to put the owners at a loss.

Of course, just letting it rot longer would put them at more of a loss...

some of the straight deckers built as recently as the 70s have gone to the breakers because they have enough steel to cover the scrapping with a profit

that elevator is wide open now...was not before. Change in seasons, I suppose.

I say scrap the damn thing.

this is not a shame letting this UGLY boat rot, a shame is the SS United States that is pittiful
Posted by msb 9/20/2005 5:56 PM | remove
agreed. the SSUS in philly is stunning, and it is just rotting. I really hope something happens with it, it would be a shame to see that ship scrapped.
You thought getting onto this boat was hard? HA!

SSUS was built to be easily adapted in the event of war, its propulsion system was classified for years!
Posted by JavaDog 9/23/2005 8:29 PM | remove
Well, I won't argue with you there - the SSUS is very impressive...

its a beautiful looking boat too, it commands respect with its sleek lines, its like a jaguar and the aquarama a chevette
