This is the inside of the projector where the film goes through. The lens is at right on a turret which is swiveled closed when the movie is ready to start. The black box at top is the Dolby reader, which is where the film's soundtrack is read. It's interesting to note that the sound is read before the frame it is on is actually shown. The handle at bottom left is the "frame bar", which is used when the film is out of frame. Twisting it one way or the other moves the film up or down to center the frames in the film gate. Gnerally most projectionists don't use it at all because if the movie is threaded properly it will be in frame. Using it too much while the movie is running can also damage the film. The small door at bottom covers the backup Dolby reader, which would take over the duty of processing the sound if for some reason the top one failed.
