My girlfriend used to work there - hospital is really really old but quite interesting.

OK apparently the plan is/was not to close the hospital as such but to close all the wards and turn the place into one huge collection of day clinics. Also, the A&E would be closed with the Southern and the Royal becoming the main Casualty bases.
