Even though Little Boy was a nuclear bomb, it wasn't that powerful. And after all, nukes aren't as "allmighty" as you might think.
And Japanese are good builders... ;)

They didn't drop The Bomb directly on it...the target was actually a bridge across the river. This was just about the only structure (besides a bank vault) that was still left standing withing a mile or two.

This building was very likely baked by the heat - which allowed it to remain upright.
Depending on construction and water content - this process may have made it stronger - like a vase in a kiln.

I was surprised when I took the picture too! It's in RAW format from my Canon S50 P&S camera. I just put it on the tripod and let it go.
FWIW, Nuclear bombs actually explode in the air, before impact, so the bomb was right over the dome when it detotnated. The force was outward from the dome into the surrounding region, and therefore the building was "spared."

Very sadly, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was about a 10th the size of the current nuclear weapons we have now...:-<
