I think this is actually a spinner, not the motor on top, to make vynil wafers of equal thickness

I agree! I just saw lots of pictures of presses and this doesn't look like one. I wouldn't call them wafers though. The term is 'biscuits' and that's because, from what I remember, they look like fat black biscuits!

This is an EMI manual record press. It is a rough copy of the Alpha Toolex press. The moulds have ben removed. The turntable on the right is the trimmer - this trims the excess vinyl at the edge of the record.
