24-track tapes maybe? Which would almost certainly mean that there was a mixing facility here as well, or that they had a giant safe.

My guess is the actual studios were in the office-like building, or in one of the low, decrepit ones.
There WAS a recording/mixing facility in the complex, it's one of the few facts I've been able to cross-reference.

Too wide for DATs, if memory serves this mangled tape was around an inch in width. That's a lot of channels! 24-channel masters, possibly (digital, but not DAT).
