There was a conveyor that ran across the highway to the clay mines before US 52 was widened in the early-1960's.

Looks more like a rail system for a cart than a conveyer belt by looking at the actuall rails, but its just an observation.

Well, I was conveying the notion in the sense that clay was transported across via a conveyor system, which may include rails. In this case, that is true, via tiny rail carts. These narrow gauge rails are also found in the mines.
