50 / 51   p5182809.jpeg

Description
The carcass of the Mercedes lorry. The sign reads 'Attica Quicklime Production [Company]' (yes, Greek can be a compact language), 'Tel. 281.043'. Six digits places this in the early Seventies. The lorry was much older than that, obviously.

Interesting/confusing linguistic fact: the Greek word for quicklime is 'asbestes'. It's a colloquialism of 'asbestos', but it's a coincidence (based on the meaning of the word). Asbestos is 'amiantos' in Greek.

I don't think its Mercedes - grille looks more like late 40's Dodge to me.

It does look like surface rust, but now that I look at it, it dosen't have an engine or any of the other crap that goes in the engine compartment.

GOD NO! Never say that, that is an old truck (whatever it may be) and deserves nothing less than what was put under the hood in production!
