Looking closely at this picture you can see some magnificent stone work has been hidden by an outer coating presumably to weather prof the structure. Could this be removed to restore it to it's former glory ? PS I visited Castle Grant on New Years Day 06 It looks magnificent in comparison to the above...

The castle right now is in a bit of a state - only partially restored, abandoned (again) and you can see it starting to fall apart now - looks okay from a distance though. Kind of sad really.

Grizz, what's your location? Incidentally -as I seem to be posting as a habit- the "outer coating" you refer to is what is knwn as 'Harling' it's a traditional practice in Scotland (assuming this isn't concrete or some other 'modern' intervention). It is for protectign the stone underneath...

Also, bear in mind that the iron should go IN FRONT of the kettle to prevent infection.
