Class joint this one. It's a real shame to see it all going to hell like that.

It might not have gone to hell if it hadn't been suspiciously torched after the building contractors bought it - *insert something libellous here*.

That theory falls down on one point, though...why has nothing been done with the site in the 13 years since the fire? The place has PP for 13 dwellings, so why not sell it and take the cash? What would they have gained if the fire were deliberate?

Maybe they had an insurance policy out on it that wouldn't pay out in the case of arson and they'd taken a gamble that it wouldn't be discovered as arson?

Plus if the building is sooo badly damamged they can wreck it and build something in it's place more suited to their needs and with a lot less hassle than restoring this place.

Hmmm...both theories fall down again on the grounds of time...13 years since the fire and nothing has been done, except waste a lot of money restoring one of the outbuildings and then abandoning the entire place.
You could understand the hiatus if the fire had been a year or two ago. But 13 years? There must be some other reason.

I just found out that I'm not-so-distantly related to the owners of this place. Oh the horror.

HISTORY This building burnt down BEFORE developers bought it, promising to restore it. They did nothing for 10 years. Building empty & NOT insured at time of fire. Fire probably due to ancient faulty wiring. New owner (3rd since fire) planning to turn site into houses & flats. note to AGAPANTHUS. You are right. Freedom or right to roam act in Scotland does not include the curtilage of a house or roam with intent to steal or damage. THAT is trespass.

No actually, THAT is a breach of the peace or breaking and entering with intent to commit burglary.
