They don't build 'em like this anymore that's for sure.

Nope! Just look at the new Glen O' Dee Hospital - it's a lame approximation of a hospital crammed into generic office-like buildings.

It just the easiest, and the most convenient way. Nobody give a damn about detail anymore.

True, but they could at least make buildings that don't fall to pieces in 15 years.

Yeah, but people don't make money if their buildings last 100 years. They get fame, but nowadays people care more for money than for fame.

hummmm if people care more about money then fame, how do you explain this incredible success of reality-TV? They don't make people that much rich (except for a few exceptions like Survivors). Most people do those shows just to see their faces on TV...

To an extent: some also have aspirations of making it big in TV / Films after having thier face in the media.

I'm told it's not a good route, far easier to shag someone in a position to include you in upcoming productions.

sorry... I shopuld've stated myself clearer. Ppl don't care for long-term fame (after they die). They want it now.

I used to have this quote by Henry Newboult in my sig that summed up the 'old' attitude to building things:

"Let us build for the years we shall not see"

..which i think is a lovely idea!

Yep, I think so. What should not happen is that the same architect is allowed to design 2 buildings on the same site (when the first one is demolished after 30 years, double it's expected lifespan, as happened with my old school.)

New buildings/houses suck in my opinion because they have no character. Every nick and scrape has a story to tell. Same goes for cars. My car is 5 years older than I am. And I am not young.

Equally, immaculately restored buildings (and cars) for that matter are dull.
