Description
Behind the gate to the left is a set of stairs...and up those stairs is one of the oddest things you'll ever see.

Odd indeed -you reckon that was ground-level back when?

Yes, the cemetery is fifteen feet off the ground, which was the original height of the landscape before the mall was built.

Apparently, it was the manh in charge of building the mall that made this structure. From what I've read, he went above and beyond what was required of him.

I went by here today, as I live VERY close and actually needed something from the WalMart that now sits behind the mausoleum. To my dismay, there are two large trees now waving their branches above the visible top railing on the structure, and you can see tree roots eeking their way into the stairwell. I fear the place is going to crumble soon. I've tracked down and tried to contact the last person known to have a key to that doggone lock, just to see if anyone is still maintaining it, and to get a few more pictures while its still possible. Interestingly, the property that the cemetery sits on is for sale, separate from the WalMart's parcel. The old Avondale Mall and Cinema 16 sign are still standing as of today.
