A beautiful but isolated location, NAVFAC Point Sur had to provide it's own recreational diversions for the officers and sailors --and their family members-- assigned there. Still, anyone stationed there had better have enjoyed natural beauty & tranquility or else they would have been quite bored. Recreation facilities that the Navy removed in the early 1980s included an enclosed swimming pool, and a tennis court. The gymnasium & bowling alley which appear in my photos were bulldozed by California State Parks in 2003 because they were structurally unsound.
