The site was initially developed for industrial use by the 1880s. Fire insurance maps from 1909 and 1914 show an industrial complex. These maps also show machine rooms, engine rooms and boiler rooms. Historic street directories indicated that the paper company occupied the site until the late 1920s when a roofing company used the site.
