Gallery Description
It was a beautiful Saturday day. The sun was shining brightly, and the air was warm. So Safety_Elephant, Cain and I set out to explore the old abandoned insulating board Plant. We wern't sure what kind of state it was in, or if it was even accessible, but decided it was worth going to take a look at anyways. Lucky for us it was wide open and we had no problems gaining access.

The first room to be explored appeared to be a shipping or receiving dock. The ceiling contained a massive 5 tonn crane which looked very tempting. Unfortunately the stairs leading to the catwalk for the crane had been removed... Damn.

Soon after the exploration continued it was discovered that the building was not abandoned afterall... No, there were obvious signs of human activity, and we could hear the faint shrill of a skill saw. As we approached the noise the sounds of human voices could be heard. There were men at work. We wern't alone.

With this in mind we continued to check out the building. The large machines for handling the boards were first on our list. We then made our way down towards the warehouse which contained the offices. After rooting around in the offices for a bit we wandered through the various pieces of equipment laying on the floor of the warehouse. The sound of the saw was getting louder and louder with every passing second so we decided to hurry it up and get out of the warehouse.

We entered the next hallway which contained row after row after row of rollers and ovens and blowing units. This must have been where the insulating boards were baked. The status of the rollers was written on the inside of many of the doors. "Rollers are bent" was a common theme. Probably quite costly to repair.

The hallway lead us back to the room we first entered. It was decided that we should move onto the next few small buildings and check them out before leaving for good. But before doing that, there was one thing I still had to do. I was determined to climb that crane.

A closer look of the structure reveiled that the rails in which the crane sat on were wide enough to walk on. Following the rails to the back wall reveiled a door on the far wall which lead to upper catwalks which would give me access to the crain. yay! I made my way back to through the plant, found the door, and made my way up to the crane. And it was vary fun.

so we head out of the main building and make our way around the side to the other smaller buildings, then eventually to the roof of the main building.

We had now been exploring the building for 4 hours and decided it was about time to call it a day and pack it in. The sun was starting to go down and we had seen pretty much everything there was to see. So we head down the ladder and start walking back to the vehicles.

On the way back I decided to poke my head into one of the small side buildings we hadn't looked at. So I crawl over the wreckage of a former bay door and up into the building. Cain and Safety_Elephant follow. Just as we get inside past the enterance I hear the low rumbling of an engine and the crunching snow of an approaching vehicle. We freeze and listen closely. We wern't so lucky this day. The vehicle stopped and the noise of a slamming door is heard. Footsteps. Shit... A brisk walk to the other end of the building is in order.

Normally I'd have a second SD card with dummy pictures on it for occasions like this. But today I forgot it at home so I had no safety net incase we got caught and were forced to delete our pictures.

Cain sticks his head out the door and takes a quick look. The coast is clear! Lets get outta here! Cain and Safety_Elephant step down and start to leave as I finish crawling out from under a few obstacles.

"What are you doing here? What the FUCK are you guys doing here!?"

They're busted... Shit...

At this time there was no real good way out so I just jumped down with my camera and tripod in hand and approached the guy (A classic build burly biker dude...).

He exchanged the usual words... This is private property... No tresspassing... Caught again and I WILL call the cops... Is that a camera? Give me your film. No film? Delete the pictures.

I grudgingly decided it was best to just format the card instead of arguing with him. So I format the card and give him the camera so he can verify that there are no more pictures on it. He is satisfied, tells us not to come back, then intently watches us leave the property. I could see another man standing with him as we leaft the property. This other man also appeared to be a classic biker with a gray beard.

It was a great day up until we tried to leave. Up until we got caught by the burly biker dudes. But no damage done... After spending an hour with Digital Image Recovery I was able to recover ALL of the lost pictures. yay!

Special thanks to Safety_Elephant for telling me about and taking me to the location!
