In 1930 it screened its first "talkie" movie, a film called Lord Byron of Broadway. In 1934 the theater's name was changed to State Theater. By 1984 the theater was long closed and had caught the eye of the Montana State Historic Preservation Office, which wanted to restore it. Before that could happen a fire damaged the theater in 1997.
