The unfinished pyramid of the Montana complex built for the Safeguard Program. Only the base and part of the second level remain. The only truly interesting part about this abandonment is it's history, truth be told.

Lots of graffiti, it seems to be a popular party spot for teenagers in the surrounding community.

In the fifties and sixties, the US military began to consider anti-ballistic missile defense systems to defend the Minuteman missile farms against incoming ICBMs and preserve America's ability to launch a retaliatory nuclear strike. Known as Perimeter Acquisition Radar (PAR) systems or the Safeguard Program, these US Army radar bases would relay information to US Air Force to provide targeting information for Spartan, Sprint, or Nike-X antiballistic nuclear missiles, each equipped with a small nuclear warhead. Three of these sites were planned, construction was started on two, and only one ever became operational. In 1979 America signed the SALT I treaty with the Soviet Union, limiting both nations to one PAR site each. Since the PAR site in Montana was only 10% completed, construction was halted upon the signing of the treaties. All underground structures have since been filled in, but the base of the radar pyramid still remains.

It will continue to slowly crumble on the Montana plains, far away from civilization.
