Opened in 1938 as the Calumet Cheese Company. Original building consisted of two floors, including living space for the plant foreman. At one time, this factory had the largest amount of refrigerated space in the county. Purchased in the 1970's by Gerber, later acquired by Nestle and lastly Fromageries Bel. Operated until 1995 when production of the Wispride brand was moved to a different cheese plant in Kentucky. Also seemed to be due to lack of a sufficient water treatment plant at the time (small community/largest employer) Production was eventually brought back to Wisconsin when Fromageries Bel purchased the Little Chute Kaukauna Cheese plant in 1996, but this plant has sat vacant and used as periodic storage since. It was announced in 2020 that a grant will be awarded to clear the land for future commercial use.
