     History
Silverlands was originally built as a large country house in 1820 and rebuilt in 1849. In 1938 it became the Actors Orphanage for Destitute Children which lasted for twenty years, and after the Second World War part of the building became a nursing college for the nearby St. Peter's Hospital. When the orphanage closed in 1958 the nursing college carried on operating out of the building until 1990. In 2002 it was announced the building was going to become a rehab centre for paedophiles which was met with extremely strong opposition however during the time these plans were announced the building was completely restored, but the plans were dropped and the building once again left abandoned.

     Future Plans
In February 2020 renovation work finally began, which involves partial demolition and conversion of the main bulk of the building into apartments. The main staircase is being removed and restored off site before being reinstalled, and the ballroom will be turned into an indoor swimming pool.
