Exploration of limestone began around 1940. Three kilns were built by 1942 for the manufacturing of lime. Coal was used for heating the kilns. There was also a railway subdivision line which provided transportation of finished products out of the facility. Although the facility suffered a substantial fire in 1958, it was rebuilt and used for close to another decade, finally closing in 1967. After 10 more years of the facility sitting vacant, the provincial government sold the property. Today the building is completely abandoned along with numerous other foundations. The massive pits remain untouched. The company which originally used this facility, was established in Winnipeg in 1919 and is still in operations today, although no longer operating this satellite location.
