In one of the oldest parks in Toronto is the conservatory of Allan Gardens. It was built in 1910 and is considered to be somewhat of an oasis in downtown Toronto. The designed is almost entirely glass with steel supports. There are ladders that can be used to access different parts of the roof by sliding them along rails that run along the perimeter of the structure. However, clambering around the roof is more difficult than it looks; the glass truly is fragile.

The Conservatory dates back to 1858 when prominent local politician George Allan offered the Toronto Horticultural Society a five-acre parcel of land to develop a garden. Eventually, a conservatory was built but it burned down in 1902. It was rebuilt by 1910, and that's the one that stands today.
