Since May 24, 2015, the "Children" as we call it here, was abandoned. Following the transfer of some MUHC institutions to the new mega-hospital, it had remained vacant while waiting to be repurposed. Still, keeping it has not ended up being an option... The plans to make condo towers quickly took over when they were announced. It was only in 2017, two years after the hospital closed, that the demolition work finally began. From July 2017, to around September 2018, the hospital was being demolished. So in the early days of demos, there were several breaches to enter the building and it was the moment when many people took advantage as I did. It must be said that before the beginning of the demolition, there were guards patrolling inside of the building to monitor the remaining equipment and thatno one enters it. Many cameras had been installed and it was pretty impossible to explore it before. The demolition is now completely finished, only the administrative building is remaining because of its heritage interest. It will be part of the project of the six towers to condos Square Children's.

Founded in 1904, Children's Memorial Hospital is the first hospital in the city to provide child-only care. Established in a modest house on Guy Street, the facility primarily offers care for children with disabilities in its infancy. Very quickly, the hospital came to generalized pediatric care, forcing its move to a Cedar Street building in 1909. In 1920, the Children's Memorial became a teaching hospital affiliated with McGill University. Over the years, a wide range of services were offered to the city's children, including speech therapy in 1933, medical genetics in 1949 and psychiatry in 1950. This growth made it inevitable that in 1956 they had to move to the 2300 Tupper Street, which will be occupied until May 24, 2015. It is also at this time that the facility is renamed and becomes The Montreal Children's Hospital. In 1997, this hospital joined the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, the Montreal Neurological Institute and the Chest Institute to form the MUHC. On May 24, 2015, the Montreal Children's Hospital moved to the site of the new hospital and remained abandoned until 2017 when the demolition of the hospital began to make way for condo towers. Only one building will be preserved because of the heritage interest.

The real estate project that will transform the former Montreal Children's Hospital will be called Square Children's. It is the firm Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architects who signed the set of six towers of Square Children's. It will include 1,400 housing units, both condos, rental apartments and social housing managed by the Montreal Municipal Housing Office. There will be offices, a 250-room hotel and a huge sports center, as well as the Sky Lounge, located at the top of one of the towers to offer Mount Royal and downtown Montreal view.
