Originally a dormitory for the nurses of the Valley View Sanatorium in Wayne, New Jersey, this building was converted into a juvenile detention facility when the sanatorium closed. The building was gutted and rebuilt, and a huge addition was added to the back once the facility needed to expand. It was emptied in 2010, the same time as the geriatric ward, but it continued to be used as storage until it was demolished. Police had been known to check back in on the building and have their coffee in one of the staff cafeterias. We found a newspaper inside from the week prior to when we were inside in 2013. Demolition began on the remaining hospital buildings in 2015, and as soon as they were taken down the detention center followed.
