 Overview
 Description
*This location was demolished in April 2017* D.A.

This location includes several structures, all in varying states of decay, vandalism, and interestingness. Almost all of the mobile homes are gone, but a couple remain, along with several permanent structures, including: 4-5 residences spread out across several acres of land. The one in the best condition and most recently vacated is situated at the very end of the dirt road that begins in the Griffis store parking lot. Across the street there are two homes. One is very modest, very abandoned, and very, very scrapped. It's not really worth the trouble or the high visibility to get to it, but its next door neighbor is one that I am keeping my eye on. *Last I checked it was still in use, but I don't believe anyone lives there. Meetings of some sort are held there weekly, I believe. It's only a matter of time before that property succumbs to the pretty price-tag that has been attached to these properties. The overall location consists of about a dozen structures, most of them clustered around the centerpiece, Griffis Corner Store.

*As of March 2016, the home across the street is definitely still lived in. As a matter of fact, there is a third home (if you include the scrapped one), that I never knew existed, and it is also lived in. Both show now signs of going anywhere. I'd stick to the Griffis side of the street.

  •  Hazards
  • Poisonous snakes. Two copperheads were found in the storage shed. Also keep an eye out for poison ivy. I hate that stuff.
  •  Interesting Features
The last remains of what used to be an entire community centered around this one corner store. It's one of the oldest businesses in the Flower Mound/Grapevine area (the store was around long before Grapevine Lake was even built).
     Security Measures
  • fences
  • locked gates
  • Griffis may have had security sensors shortly after it was abandoned, but I doubt any such thing is currently in use. No promises, though.

    Closed: 2014
     Required Equipment

     Media Coverage
Shortly after Griffis shut its doors, all but one resident had vacated the area. This one remaining resident decided to shoot a 19 year old kid for parking on/near his property after they got into an argument. He had blocked the kid's car in and had called a tow company. They proceeded to argue and the resident pulled out a gun and shot the 19 year old. According to the news, he was transported to Parkland ICU, but I couldn't find anything on the outcome of this incident, other than the shooter was arrested on aggravated assault charges.

    The shooting: http://starlocalme...-001a4bcf887a.html

    Incident report: http://www.flower-...ViewFile/Item/2788

I did a little digging and found out the outcome of the shooting. The male that was shot was actually 27 years old, not 19. He did survive but had some complications from the shooting requiring multiple surgeries. The man was sentenced to the maximum 15 year sentence after he told the pre-sentencing officer, "I have no regrets, I'd do the exact same thing all over again."

     Future Plans
Griffis will be torn down and some new, pricey, trendy stores will replace it to offer the residents of the new 14 story high rise across the street a place to buy their local chardonnay and get their nails done.
