History
The trestle and tunnel was part of the old Kettle Valley Railway.
About the tunnel: the two portals were built at different times. When originally constructed (1916) this tunnel was likely lined with timber bracing to protect against the poor quality of rock that the tunnel goes through. Even with the construction of the portals in 1944 and 1949, the bracing would likely have remained between the portals (common practice). In many of the tunnels along the KVR, upon abandonment or in the years following, the bracing was removed allowing the roof to cave in. This has been done to prevent injury / death of people camping / hiking in the tunnels.
*Update* on Sunday May 27 2018 a group of 3 people started a fire on the trestle by tossing a cigarette. The fire has now been burning for two days. (View the news article in the media coverage bellow.)
