Built in the early 20's this high school finally closed in 2007. A new high school across town has replaced it. The front entrance is part of the original building. It has had additions built on to it over the years, and ended up as sprawling 3 floor structure, easy to get lost in. As of March 2012 work was underway to turn the old high school into a senior's complex. Construction crews were gutting the interior of the building to make room for the $17-million complex. Touchstone Resort developer John Davies, who is one of the buildings owners, said crews started the renovation process at the front entrance of the building. According to the project's site plan application, which was approved in 2009, the complex will feature 153 rooms, 30 of which will be reserved for residents who have assisted living needs. Common amenities include a pool, a spa, a games room, a beauty parlour and a theatre. Developers closed a deal to buy the former school from Trillium Lakelands District School Board in January 2010 for $650,000. The building has been boarded up since 2007, when students and staff moved over to the present Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School building on Clearbook Trail. For over 80 years this served as the only high school in the greater Bracebridge area. As of Thanksgiving 2012 the demo has begun slowly, unsure of current status. An awesome stop along the route to the Muskoka Centre Sanitarium if you're heading that way. It's now an alternative lifestyle living facility, abandoned sections have been demolished and original structure has been re-purposed (as of June 2014).
