The San Diego is a derelict boat in the San Joaquin delta. This baby has seen better days, but at her age she definitely has some tales to tell. Of all the derelicts we've seen on the delta it’s the most intact & definitely one of the biggest. Length: 191.4’ Width: 43.6’ Draft: 14.1’ Gross Tons: 556 11.7.2023 - The ferry San Diego was scrapped in 2012.

The San Diego, named after the city it was built to serve, was constructed by the Moore Drydock Company in Oakland, for the San Diego-Coronado Ferry Company in 1931. Originally weighing in at a whopping 556 tons, she is 191.4' x 43.6' with a 14.1’ draft. In her heyday between 1931 and 1969, the San Diego was one of five boats that ferried passengers and automobiles across the bay from San Diego to Coronado. The ferries ceased operation Aug. 2, 1969 and went their separate ways when the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge opened. Since leaving Coronado, the San Diego has been adrift, abandoned, aground, set on fire, occupied by an ersatz artists colony, and grist for many failed business undertakings up and down the West Coast. In the 1980s, local businessman Roger Morgan purchased the ferry with the hopes of returning it to Coronado and transforming it into a floating dinner theater. She was scrapped in 2012.
