History
This cable car junction used to serve mines #5 and #6, but it is likely that it was closed before mine #6 ceased operations as they stopped using cable cars and began transporting coal by trucks.

Future Plans
All traces of human activity in Svalbard dating from before 1946 are protected. Although this mine is newer than that, it will not be demolished and will eventually be covered by the cultural heritage law. While safe from demolition, the buildings will eventually collapse on their own or be bought down by an avalanche.
It seems that someone (probably ISS) is fixing up the building - between my two visits doors were closed and walls fixed. There's also a sign outdoors about some of the potential dangers in the building.
