     History
Construction of Holly Street Power Plant, and the longhorn dam (to provide cooling for the plant) began in the late 1950's, and finally opened for use in 1960. The plant is a natural gas/oil-fired steam electric generating facility. The plant consists of four steam turbine generators, and produced a total of 540 megawatts of electricity. The plants main purpose was to stabilize power distribution on Austins 69KV system, and to compensate for the loss of the other power plants and substations. After many years of successful operation, Holly closed it's doors and stopped production on September of 2007

     Future Plans
A contract has been arranged for the demolition of the plant now. They plan to begin decommissioning it in July, which should start off a rather lengthy process to make the Plant stop existing.
