Two buildings: old farmhouse/barn and newer, more modern home. Both are abandoned/vacant. There has been some minor vandalism (spray paint, broken windows). The newer house is in fairly good repair, the old house is not. The roof of the old house is made of heavy wooden beams and ceramic earthen tiles. It is collapsing and is dangerous! Proceed with caution.

On the second floor of the old house there is a small room that has all the walls lined with egg crates or something of that nature. I thought that perhaps it was a room where family members would practice musical instruments. The architecture is typical of Italian farmhouses of this era. If you've never seen one up close, this is a good one to examine.

These buildings are located on an operational farm. The site may or may not be used for storage of farm machinery some or part of the time.

Italy, like many European countries has had a sizable shift from agrarian to an industrial economy. Even so, farming remains a large part of the national economy. Family farms are still a very common sight all over the country. With any country having such a long history as Italy, it's needless to say that there are many abandoned buildings from various ages. One of the most populous varieties seems to be that of old farmhouses. Just about every swathe of farmland seems to have an old house in varying states of decrepitude on the property. Often, these old houses served the family for generations. Many times old, dilapidated buildings can be seen along side newer buildings which are sometimes in various states of dilapidation and decay themselves. In Marola and the surrounding areas there are several abandoned buildings, many of them are farmhouses. This one is along the river Tesina in the midst of active farm land. The original house and barn (most of the old farmhouses have the barn attached to the house itself) is likely to be a few hundred years old. Adjacent to it is a modern house that is also vacant. The reason for the modern building's vacancy is unapparent, as it seems to be a fully functional building. The old house is in decay. When I first went there the roof was fully intact and I was able to go onto the second floor. The second time that I visited the location I was surprised to see that part of the roof had collapsed right over the stairs. I imagine that it won't be long until more of the roof caves in.

This building will most likely sit undisturbed until it fully collapses. That is the typical fate of most similar structures in the region. It's unfortunate, but it provides an air of mystery to the landscape whilst driving about the region.
