 Overview
 Description
A small, abandoned National Park Service ranger station in the remote south part of Saguaro National Park East near Tucson. Access is limited; you can either hike many miles through the park, or sneak your way across acres of private ranch land. There is no legal public access to the site other than by the trails. A few buildings remain, but they are boarded up and entry is inadvisable due to a mice infestation which resulted in a Hantavirus disease hazard. There is also a water tower, an old stable and smithy, and a few other interesting features, as well as fairly pleasant natural desert scenery.

     History
The Madrona pools area of Saguaro National Park was developed in the 1940s-1960s to be a picnic area and popular visitation site. The Madrona Ranger Station is located on the northern boundary of the X-9 Ranch. There is no public access to the site from any public roads; the only road to the station runs through the X-9 ranch and is kept closed off. Access to the Madrona Ranger Station, the Madrona Pools, and the trailheads has been a point of contention for decades. Sometime in the 80s, the station structures suffered a severe mice/hantavirus infestation and were permanently shut down. For this reason it remains inadvisable to enter the buildings as there is a distinct disease hazard present.
