     History
It closed in 2007 because of inhumane conditions. It used to be a nursing home for elderly patients originally. It then became a homeless shelter in DC. People were living with bedbug-infested mattresses on the floor, dormitories overrun by mice and insects, scabies infections, poor food and non-functioning air-conditioning and heating units.

DC Village ran illegally for years even with the city trying to shut it down. DC is a foul place, especially when you're talking about the communities in Southeast.

    Update:

Opened in 1906 as the Home for the Aged and Infirm the complex went through a few names which are still in use for the area. The infirmary building and central building and cottages were a 1950's addition to the complex. Many of the original buildings still stand in use up on the hill at the DC Job Corps. The hospital operations were ceased in 1996 and shortly afterwards parts were re-opened as a homeless shelter. Years later the homeless shelter was shut down and parts of the cottages surrounding then Infirmary were taken up by the DC police for various training. The last occupants of the central building was Americorps, and evidence of their habitation was visible in the Infirmary building on a wall that was used as a Americorps guest book. Americorps finally closed up in late 2008. For years the parking lot of the Infirmary building was used for CDL training, and the rest of the campus was lightly patrolled if at all. There are still several buildings left including the boiler house and the laundry building. A little walk around the campus shows many of the buildings, but a new forensics lab is being built on location of the refrigeration house and storage shed. The Infirmary building, central building, cottages and chapel have been demolished in order for WMATA to build a new bus garage in its place.
