     History
Crafted and sold more hats than any of it's competitors at one point. In April of 1899 the workers went on strike due to the wage they were being paid, eventually they went back to work. During the 1940s Merrimac Hat Corp. was the largest manufacturer of trimmed hats and hat bodies in the nation. It employed 2,100 people in seven factories in the U.S. and Canada. However in 1950 the price of wool to make the hats became too expensive and the factory was shut down.

Early 2000's the right hand side of the building was renovated and turned into 80 condominiums dedicated to those over the age of 55. These condos became known as Hatter's Point. There is also a marina for the residents of the condos behind the building.

     Future Plans
in 2008 the plans for phase 2, which is renovating the rest of the building were OKed. However since the economy has been bad the plans have been put on hold until further notice. December 2010 construction crews started to tear down a large portion of the old half of the building to start on the second phase to add more condos for the elderly.
