Les immeubles délabrés de Place de l'Acadie et Place Henri-Bourassa étaient réputés pour être les pires taudis de Montréal. La négligence des propriétaires de Place de l'Acadie, enclavés entre l'autoroute 15 et le boulevard L'Acadie et le boulevard Henri-Bourassa, a été dénoncée pendant plusieurs années.
Après le décès du principal propriétaire, Sadok Sagman, au début de l'année 2007, les immeubles sont passés entre les mains d'une compagnie à numéro administrée par sa veuve et deux de ses fils. Ce changement ne s'est traduit par aucune amélioration pour les locataires, qui ont continué de vivre dans des logements parsemés de moisissure - due à l'eau qui s'infiltrait sans cesse -, de champignons et de vermine de toutes sortes.
