"Butte Knitting Mills was a division of Jonathan Logan Inc., at the time the world's largest women's apparel manufacturer. The first Spartanburg location opened in January 1960 off of I-85 as the first double-knit garment operation in the United States.
According to a 1972 Herald-Journal article, Butte Knit's initial production space had grown from about 40,000 square feet to about 1.5 million square feet with more than 2,000 employees.
The original I-85 location became one of four Butte Knit plants in Spartanburg County, and served as the plant's main office. The company announced that it would close and sell its Spartanburg plants in 1981."
