 Overview
 Description
Looking at the maps, this looks like the biggest tunnel system in Durham, judging by length and number of navigable branches.

The zodiac symbols and burnt candles definitely give it a unique atmosphere.

Several trips have been made without incident, but once, some bad air was encountered, probably due to some illegal dumping. Pay attention to that.

  •  Interesting Features
The drain system is free of graffiti except for an elaborate set of mystical symbols and clues that adorn many walls and junction boxes. There are several unique drain types in the brick section, and in the oldest part, a shrine including an old black and white portrait and burnt down candle stumps.

There are also some interesting flowstone formations, and one section runs directly under the fountain and waterfall on the American Tobacco Campus.

     History
The oldest brick sections of this drain are under parts of the American Tobacco District, and were probably built concurrently, in the 1930's. A large section also runs under and along the adjacent freeway, built sometime in the '70s.
