     History
Established in 1976 as a tribute to the history and future of Fort Worth, Heritage Park was built over the bluffs next to the Paddock Viaduct (Main St. bridge). The park was designed by Lawrence Halprin, and is seen as a sort of smaller counterpart to the elaborate and massive Water Gardens on the south side of Downtown. The unique architecture of the park created a quiet meditative environment for its patrons, also allowing for a walk onto a catwalk over the bluffs for a clear view of the Trinity River and surrounding area. Over time the park was neglected by city officials, even though it resides next to the courthouse and other various government buildings. The concrete structures grew moss, the water works began pumping sludge or stopped flowing altogether, the grass died, and more and more homeless folk began using the pak as a refuge. The city closed the park for renovations in 2007, but it seems that no one has gone back to do anything about it. Who knows what will happen in the future.
