     History
Built in 1919, this slaughterhouse was considered state of the art for it's time. Operated for only four years, it closed down in 1923 when it's owner, G. Herbert Smith was found dead in his home. The plant went bankrupt and was sold off at auction, and has remained abandoned since. Became a popular party spot for local kids over the years. In 1982, a 16 year old fell from the top floor of the building and was killed.
The building was demolished in April of 2014, to make room for the Wilmington Bypass, article here; (http://portcitydai...wilmington-bypass/)
