     History
Named after a Scottish manufacturer Walter Benny, who had purchased the land in 1838 for farming purposes, the Benny Farm project is inspiring a revolution in sustainable housing development. Its unprecedented environmental strategies are complemented by the active promotion of social inclusiveness and well-being. Guided by a participatory process, this cooperative promotes equity and responsibility amongst this community and enables medium and lower income families, single parents, individuals with limited mobility and seniors to live in healthy and environmentally friendly dwellings.

Originally built by the CMHC in 1947 as housing for veterans, the Benny Farm neighborhood is now being re-developed enhancing its cultural and social heritage. This redevelopment is happening in different phases.
