The building and furniture are all original from 1872. Once inside, there are markings on the chalkboard from when the school house was in session. Sometimes the school house is unlocked. If you are lucky it will be when you visit.
I spoke with a local in the museum and he is convinced that the school house is the most haunted place in Malakoff Diggins. He told me about a school master who went crazy and murdered a child in front of the class. The body was the hung in the upstairs rafters until locals found out from the frightened children. The school master was then hung in downtown North Bloomfield.
The upstairs rafters are super creepy with this weird ladder. Haunted or not, a century old cemetery is right next to the school. There is something just unequivocally spooky about the place.

North Bloomfield School 1872-1873
Built at the cost of some 3,000 dollars modeled after schoolhouses at nearby sebastopol and sweetland, it served the community until closed in 1941. Acquired from Washington School District Nevada Country, For public use and display. Restoration commenced in 1973 by popular subscription.
Dedicated June 10. 1973. (100 Years Later)
