Three story school building, oddly shaped. There's the original three story structure, the large 1953 addition which includes a one-story lunch room in between the three-story original and 1953 addition and the annexed 1923 Logan Junior High / Central Elementary / Logan High School West Wing. There used to be an impressive football field out back, but it's already gone. Everything you'd expect to find out of a high school - math, english, science, history rooms, lunch room and kitchen area, two gyms, one of them condemned and one not, locker rooms, office and administrative areas, projection room, bell towers, tunnels, and a separate Agriculture building which included a downstairs weight room and utility room.

Unsafe roof in gymnasium, dead center in the middle of town - frequent police drive-bys, plenty of houses nearby, potential to be seen is high.

The Logan High School was built in 1910. In 1925, the football field was completed. In 1923, the Logan Junior High School was built on the same site (this becomes important about 80 years later). In 1936, new stadium seats were constructed under Civilian Conservation Corps, created to make jobs after the Great Depression. There was a large addition built onto the building in 1953, which included a large new lunch room. In 1957, the old Logan Grammar school was torn down, and a new Junior High was built, so the old 1923 Logan Junior High on the site began being used as an elementary school, renamed Central Elementary. In 1975, the football field was renamed Bill Sauer Field after the football team - the Chieftains' - greatest fan, a former student of the 1920's with cerebral palsy who always showed up to cheer on the Chiefs - see 'web links'. Around 2003, the Logan-Hocking School District decided it needed an overhaul of a lot of its schools. Among them, several Elementary schools were phased out, including Central. The students were moved out of Central into another nearby Elementary, and the High School annexed the building and began using it for classes in 2004, calling it the 'West Wing' addition. (Remember - this was the 1923 Logan Junior High turned 1957 Central - I told you that would be important). In 2005, if I remember the year right, the gymnasium was condemned. The roof leaked, terribly, over the seating area, so they chained off all the doors leading to it and built a plywood wall between the stage and seating area. If you stood back on the stage and looked out over the wall, you could see the ceiling falling in. The High School was in bad shape, and had been for years. There were plenty of bugs in the hallways, you could pull bricks out of the wall in certain parts of the original structure. It was impossible to sneak around in the hallways of the original building, as the floors were all wood and very, very creaky. The belltowers had been condemned for some time, and were long ago locked off from the inside. The roof leaked in so many different places, you didn't even bother noting new water spots. In my Sophomore year, a friend of mine slipped on water from a leaky roof in the gym and broke both of his wrists. All these structural faults, but I still loved this building. Everyone did, deep down. It has character. But Logan High School was also one of the buildings to be phased out under this new plan, and construction began on a new ultra-modern High School across town on a 72-acre site. The graduating class of 2007, which I was a part of, was the last class to graduate from the traditional ceremony on the football field. After football season of 2008, deconstruction of the football field and stadium began. As of November 2008, the field and stadium are completely torn apart and gone. Construction of Central Elementary has already began on what used to be Bill Sauer Field. In late November of 2008, the students across the district went home for Thanksgiving Break, which marked the changeover from the old High School to the new one. This building won't be around for long, as the whole complex is due to go down to make room for the new Central Elementary on the site.
So long story short, after 98 years of the original building serving the students of Logan, the building is closed and due to come down so the land can serve future generations as the new Central Elementary school. Three schools (Logan Junior High, Central Elementary, and Logan High) came into one, and it just wasn't good enough anymore.
