A few outbuildings and the foundations are all that remain of the massive Swift complex which more than rivaled the neighboring Armour plant in scale. The buildings that do remain are all but invisible in scrubby wood land near a small (and still active) rendering plant.

     History
This was the site of the Gustavius Swift & Co. Packinghouse at the National City Stockyards. The facility opened in 1893 and at its peak included massive slaughtering facilities, its own railyard, and a fertilizer plant. The plant suffered a massive fire in 1967 and was subsequently demolished. A smaller replacement plant was opened in 1971, but with the closing of the stockyards in 1997 that plant was converted into other use.

As of now, it appears it has been completely demolished and converted into a junkyard.
