     History
Stelwire Ltd. is Canada's largest producer of steel wire products. Headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, and operating two manufacturing plants, the company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stelco Inc., Canada's foremost integrated steel manufacturer. The company with its dedicated 600 strong labour force processes and produces more than 270,000 tons per year of rod, bar, wire, nails and strand, thus consuming more than half the capacity of a medium sized rod mill. Stelwire operates Parkdale Works, a high volume, 600,000 ft2 wire mill located on 50 acres of land in Hamilton, Ontario, and Burlington Works, a sophisticated 90,000 ft2 plant specializing in rod processing and located on 25 acres of land in Burlington, Ontario. About 2/3 of Stelwire's production was based out of the Parkdale Works, and the remaining 1/3 out of the Burlington Works.

Stelco completes sale of Norambar, Stelwire and Stelfil to Mittal

Stelco Inc. (TSX:STE) today announced that it has received a Court Order facilitating the sale of the shares of Norambar Inc., Stelwire Ltd. ("Stelwire") and Stelfil Ltée to Mittal Canada Inc. ("Mittal"). The Order was granted at a hearing held this morning, notwithstanding that Stelwire was still an applicant under Stelco's CCAA proceedings. As a result of this Order, the transaction closed today.

A definitive agreement in this matter was announced on November 23, 2005 with the stated expectation that the transaction would close early in 2006. The Court approved the sale on December 12, 2005.

Courtney Pratt, Stelco President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "I'm pleased for all concerned that the Court has facilitated the closing of this transaction. It provides the subsidiaries with ownership that views them as strategic assets. It provides certainty to their employees and retirees. And it assists Stelco in focusing on its integrated steel business going forward."
