History
The brewery-industry in Hoegaarden had during the first half of the eighteenth century its golden moment. In 1758 there were 38 brweries in the small village. Their success made Hoegaarden wealthy and thus it got some spectacular architecture for its time. In 1832 the brewery Loriers was built and its brewery is still the tallest building in Hoegaarden.
After the french revolution the golden time was over and the brweries from Hoegaarden suffered. An improving road net and a toughening competition were the underlying cause of the loss of these breweries. Even so, most breweries remained active untill the first world war. In 1937 there are only four breweries that survived. Brewery Loriers had become the biggest in Loriers by then.
Brewery Loriers makes the popular beer Das, but during the sixties this brewery had to close as well.
