  •  Interesting Features
Like the old hospital on Lamar before it was cleared away, Capleville school has been abused and torn up by local kids. Ceiling tiles and debris litter the floors in every room. There are a few rooms with chairs and desks stacked up since the last day of school. Otherwise, just holes in the brick walls and broken windows. The front facade of the building and sign are the only things left in good shape.

     History
Capleville School, later Capleville High School was built around the turn of the 20th century in what was then a rural area in southwest Shelby County, Tennessee. For the majority of its history, Capleville was an all black school where lower-class African Americans whose families worked in the cotton fields of Shelby County went to school in sections of combined grades, two grades to a room. The school was desegregated in 1971, and continued to function as a high school until its closure around 2000.

-Large fire gutted the building in Nov 09.

     Future Plans
For sale by owner. Probably will eventually be razed to make room for more light industrial/warehouse space.
