Ceiling tiles and debris litter the floors in every room. There are a few rooms with chairs and desks stacked up since the last day of school. For the majority of its history, Capleville was an all black school where lower-class African Americans whose families worked in the cotton fields of Shelby County went to school in sections of combined grades, two grades to a room.
