The Sutherland Press was established sometime around the year 1896. The building is located in the downtown area, and is bounded at rear by rail yard. The building itself was serviced by a railway spur. The press was managed for some time by a well known local, F.W Sutherland, whom in 1907 purchased the St. Thomas Journal from James Brierley.
